42% of US Adults Research Politics Online
A study from DoubleClick of more than 1000 US adults reports that 42% say they will turn to the internet for info on the upcoming 2008 election. Here’s the breakdown of where people are going for news:
60% research using television or news magazine sites, 45% use “other” online news sites and about 42% use search engines. Another 36% utilize online newspapers while 18% actually visit candidate websites. PAC and issue-based websites gain 11% of the attention, consumer groups 9% and blogs garner about 5% of voters attention.
I’m guessing that with the success of the 2006 elections, bloggers will start to attract even more eyeballs in 2008.
Not surprisingly, only 18% visit a candidate’s website. Politicians still aren’t using the internet to its fullest advantage - with blogs, audio and video. Perhaps one of these days, they’ll start to realize that people want an honest dialog on issues, not talking points, mudslinging, and marketing hype…
