Early Sparring: Clinton v. Obama
I want to like Hillary Clinton. Really. I’d love to see a woman President. But this week’s smackdown between Clinton and Obama makes absolutely no sense to me. The Democratic Party is weak enough without having candidates squabble over who’s getting funding from the billionaires in Hollywood. Who cares?
Why not focus on the issues? Why not go after the failed policies of the last six years? Why not propose solutions to getting out of Iraq or ways to move the country forward?
But no. This week’s battle was over words by David Geffen, a former Clinton supporter, who claimed she was “too incredibly polarizing” to bring the country together.
Yeah. That’s what most of us have been saying since Day 1 when it looked like she might make a run for the Presidency. She is polarizing. She will be a tough sell in many states. But since she has a pretty good chance of becoming the Democratic nominee, it’s difficult to understand why Geffen, a staunch Democrat, would participate in an interview to denounce the Clintons while praising Obama. It doesn’t help anyone.
I suppose we can hope all parties involved will follow the advice Miles Mogulescu posted at The Huffington Post and stop the bickering and infighting. But it’s probably safe to say that there’s more to come.
