Roe vs Wade Rhetoric From John McCain
With a little less than 21 months before the presidential election, ohn McCain has already pulled out the Republican trump card supporting overturning Roe vs Wade. The Houston Chronicle points out why this latest rant is a 180 degree flip flop from McCain’s 1999 campaign where he was quoted as saying
McCain said, “I’d love to see a point where Roe vs. Wade is irrelevant, and could be repealed because abortion is no longer necessary. But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe vs. Wade, which would then force women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.” A spokesman said that McCain “has a 17-year voting record of supporting efforts to overturn Roe vs. Wade. He does that currently, and will continue to do that as president.”
I guess he figures that now, it’s ok to force women in America to undergo back alley abortions… or perhaps he’s just living up to his reputation that he’ll say anything to get elected. So much for his “maverick” façade.
