According to ABC News, the reason David Geffen dislikes the Clintons so much is because Bill Clinton refused to pardon Native American activist and convicted murderer, Leonard Peltier, in 2000.

I don’t know the specifics of the case, but ABCNews reports that in 1977, Peltier was convicted for allegedly killing two FBI agents in a shootout at South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. A brief Wikipedia search reveals that there’s been much debate over Peltier’ guilt and fairness of his trial. A number of high profile individuals and groups consider him a political prisoner. I want to like Hillary Clinton. Really. I’d love to see a woman President. But this week’s smackdown between Clinton and Obama makes absolutely no sense to me. The Democratic Party is weak enough without having candidates squabble over who’s getting funding from the billionaires in Hollywood. Who cares?

Why not focus on the issues? Why not go after the failed policies of the last six years? Why not propose solutions to getting out of Iraq or ways to move the country forward? (Keep reading →)

With issues like Pluto, stem cells, and JonBenet in the news, Time Magazine has chosen to focus on Hillary Clinton’s upcoming presidential run. Their conclusions? Hillary’s “popular but polarizing.” Yeah, like we didn’t already know that.

According to their polls, Hillary leads all prominent Democratic presidential candidates, at 46%, just ahead of Al Gore’s 41%. I wonder if those numbers will convince him to run - regardless of what he says about changing careers. Not surprisingly, she rates horrible with Republicans, ok with independents, and pretty good with Democrats. 67% think she’s “politically moderate” - though it will be interesting to see how they react to Hillary’s offer to help Lamont raise money and even going so far as to offer her campaign strategist, Howard Wolfson.

I also have to give her props for pressuring Andrew von Eschenbach to finally approve emergency contraceptive Plan B for over-the-counter distribution without a prescription.
